Meanwhile, JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:) added 2.20% or 2.25 points to end at 104.65 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:) was up 1.74% or 7.00 points to 408.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Frasers Group PLC (LON:), which fell 3.63% or 24.00 points to trade at 638.00 at the close. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:) declined 3.41% or 38.50 points to end at 1,090.50 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:) was down 3.14% or 86.00 points to 2,656.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 988 to 779 and 667 ended unchanged.
Shares in Frasers Group PLC (LON:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.63% or 24.00 to 638.00.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.49% or 12.89 to $2,661.29 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.26% or 0.86 to hit $67.44 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.08% or 0.78 to trade at $71.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.08% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 106.00.
