The worst performers of the session were BAE Systems PLC (LON:), which fell 4.88% or 63.00 points to trade at 1,227.00 at the close. JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:) declined 1.55% or 1.60 points to end at 101.80 and Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:) was down 1.47% or 62.00 points to 4,148.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 928 to 779 and 726 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.68% or 18.04 to $2,682.84 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.12% or 0.08 to hit $68.64 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.58% or 0.42 to trade at $72.36 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.14% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 106.02.
