Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.40%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the REITs, Real Estate and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.40%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG), which rose 4.67% or 1.08 points to trade at 24.23 at the close. Meanwhile, First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:AG) added 4.27% or 0.43 points to end at 10.51 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) was up 3.52% or 0.29 points to 8.52 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE), which fell 4.35% or 0.50 points to trade at 10.99 at the close. Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML) declined 3.98% or 0.13 points to end at 3.14 and Magna International Inc (TSX:MG) was down 3.56% or 2.14 points to 57.92.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 618 to 324 and 98 ended unchanged.

Shares in MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) rose to 52-week highs; up 4.67% or 1.08 to 24.23. Shares in IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) rose to 5-year highs; up 3.52% or 0.29 to 8.52.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.30% to 11.12.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.16% or 4.30 to $2,734.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.70% or 1.17 to hit $69.86 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.40% or 1.02 to trade at $74.08 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.24% to 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 103.80.
