U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.61%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Oil & Gas and Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Utilities and Financials sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.61%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.03%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.56%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 1.52% or 0.34 points to trade at 22.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 1.29% or 3.70 points to end at 290.46 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 0.81% or 3.43 points to 428.16 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD), which fell 2.97% or 8.97 points to trade at 292.61 at the close. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) declined 2.51% or 1.28 points to end at 49.71 and Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV) was down 2.31% or 5.92 points to 250.50.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tapestry Inc (NYSE:TPR) which rose 13.54% to 50.49, Deckers Outdoor Corporation (NYSE:DECK) which was up 10.57% to settle at 168.11 and Digital Realty Trust Inc (NYSE:DLR) which gained 9.62% to close at 181.01.

The worst performers were Mohawk Industries Inc (NYSE:MHK) which was down 13.82% to 130.88 in late trade, Universal Health Services Inc (NYSE:UHS) which lost 9.75% to settle at 202.75 and HCA Holdings Inc (NYSE:HCA) which was down 8.83% to 363.66 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Kaixin Auto Holdings (NASDAQ:KXIN) which rose 4,918.69% to 5.37, Autonomix Medical Inc (NASDAQ:AMIX) which was up 1,457.58% to settle at 7.71 and Upexi Inc (NASDAQ:UPXI) which gained 170.00% to close at 8.10.

The worst performers were Top Wealth Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:TWG) which was down 96.00% to 0.54 in late trade, Monopar Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:MNPR) which lost 48.16% to settle at 16.93 and Evolv Technologies Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:EVLV) which was down 39.76% to 2.47 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1738 to 1051 and 97 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1779 fell and 1515 advanced, while 114 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tapestry Inc (NYSE:TPR) rose to 5-year highs; up 13.54% or 6.02 to 50.49. Shares in Digital Realty Trust Inc (NYSE:DLR) rose to all time highs; gaining 9.62% or 15.88 to 181.01. Shares in Top Wealth Group Holding Ltd (NASDAQ:TWG) fell to all time lows; losing 96.00% or 12.96 to 0.54. Shares in Autonomix Medical Inc (NASDAQ:AMIX) rose to all time lows; up 1,457.58% or 7.22 to 7.71.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 6.55% to 20.33.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.32% or 8.85 to $2,757.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.05% or 1.44 to hit $71.63 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.06% or 1.53 to trade at $75.91 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.31% to 152.29.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 104.19.
