U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.09%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Utilities and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.09% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.40%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.63%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 1.47% or 0.33 points to trade at 22.77 at the close. Meanwhile, Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 1.23% or 2.85 points to end at 235.00 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) was up 1.13% or 2.47 points to 222.02 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which fell 3.15% or 8.99 points to trade at 276.79 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) declined 0.96% or 1.05 points to end at 108.70 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was down 0.58% or 0.48 points to 82.92.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) which rose 11.10% to 763.98, Lamb Weston Holdings Inc (NYSE:LW) which was up 10.17% to settle at 78.22 and Intuitive Surgical Inc (NASDAQ:ISRG) which gained 10.00% to close at 521.10.

The worst performers were Bunge Limited (NYSE:BG) which was down 6.33% to 89.55 in late trade, CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) which lost 5.23% to settle at 60.34 and Cigna Corp (NYSE:CI) which was down 4.85% to 336.00 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were TuHURA Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:HURA) which rose 2,824.79% to 6.30, S&W Seed Company (NASDAQ:SANW) which was up 1,603.70% to settle at 3.22 and Bright Minds Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:DRUG) which gained 117.56% to close at 47.21.

The worst performers were NKGen Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:NKGN) which was down 42.89% to 0.40 in late trade, Orgenesis Inc (NASDAQ:ORGS) which lost 33.86% to settle at 2.11 and bioAffinity Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:BIAF) which was down 33.80% to 1.41 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1549 to 1236 and 98 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1814 rose and 1465 declined, while 126 ended unchanged.

Shares in Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) rose to all time highs; rising 11.10% or 76.33 to 763.98. Shares in Intuitive Surgical Inc (NASDAQ:ISRG) rose to 5-year highs; rising 10.00% or 47.37 to 521.10. Shares in Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) rose to all time highs; up 1.23% or 2.85 to 235.00. Shares in Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 1.13% or 2.47 to 222.02. Shares in TuHURA Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:HURA) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 2,824.79% or 6.08 to 6.30. Shares in S&W Seed Company (NASDAQ:SANW) rose to 52-week highs; up 1,603.70% or 3.03 to 3.22. Shares in Orgenesis Inc (NASDAQ:ORGS) fell to 5-year lows; down 33.86% or 1.08 to 2.11. Shares in Bright Minds Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:DRUG) rose to all time highs; rising 117.56% or 25.51 to 47.21.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.65% to 18.03.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.06% or 28.75 to $2,736.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.83% or 1.29 to hit $69.38 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.72% or 1.28 to trade at $73.17 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.35% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.47% to 149.49.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 103.29.
